The DOTE FairPlay Rules
These rules apply to all DOTE experiences, whether on private or public grounds.
Rule #1 - HAVE FUN! :)
Dog training can be a challenge, and any group of individuals has there own set of dynamics. Our first rule is RELAX and ENJOY. You will have a better time and so will your dog! We are all here because we love our dogs – everyone does things a little differently, and if we can learn from one another, that only makes us better trainers.
Rule #2 - The Poopy Rule
Please try to prevent your dog from peeing/pooping in a training field. Wherever your dog DOES end up pooping, you must bag it up immediately. You can drop a sealed bag in our designated poopy bucket. Note: Juicy-poop requires you to rinse the ground it slopped onto. There will be designated garbage patrol individuals assigned on a quarterly basis. Volunteering for such a duty (no pun intended) will earn you brownie points.
Safety Rules
Rule #3 - The 10 Foot Rule
To help prevent any negative interactions, dogs must be kept at least 10 feet apart from each other, unless both owners have agreed to allow interaction.
On DOTE grounds, your dog must be under control (onlead, for instance, or reliable offlead) or safely confined (in a secure crate) when resting in between working sessions. Please make sure your dog has adequate water and is in a comfortable temperature.
We often teach a sport that requires dogs to be offlead. When we do, safety first – the dogs allowed to practice together offlead should be reliable offlead, and under control of their owners. It is suggested that all involved have a good understanding of what the exercise will be, so there is no confusion.
Rule #4 - The 5 Minute Rule
Should you wish to practice an exercise alone offlead, you have 5 minutes of privacy (on your honor) in one of the small fields (not the communal/tracking field). When you use the field with this in mind. Simply secure the gate behind you as a sign to others that you wish some alonetime. This means that only 1 dog at a time may be offlead in that field, unless members have previously agreed to do offlead training together at the same time in the field (in which case they would get a total of 10 minutes or more - 5 minutes per person). When 5 minutes is up, if another dog/owner wants, they may practice there offlead. Again, safety first – your time is your time to do whatever you want with it, but please be considerate of others, and make sure you have control of your dog. Should your dog get away from you and head for another dog, go get your dog. Even if you can predict safe behavior from your own dog, you cannot know how recipient dogs - or their owners - will react.
Rule #5 - The Contact List Rule
DOTE members have agreed to share phone and email and address info with each other. We print out a membership roster. With this roster, you are welcome to contact any of us for DOTE or personal reasons. With this roster, you may NOT 'broadcast' emails to our group that are unrelated to dog fun. With this roster, you may NOT reveal anyone's contact info to any other person/entity.
Rule #6 - The Guest Rule
Sign a release to attend DOTE as a guest. First visit is free. Come again and we'll ask you for contact info and 50 bucks for the year (or $5 per visit). Members: please inform your guest of all DOTE FairPlay Rules. They are your responsibility until they become members themselves.
Rule #7 - Aggression
If a dog is deemed a threat to other dogs/people, it is mandatory that the dog be on-lead and under control at all times, until the handler has proven enough control over the dog to earn off-lead privileges.
If the dog, even on-lead, continues to be a danger, a basket muzzle will be required to prevent injury to another club member (dog or human).
If a physical altercation occurs, depending on the severity, the dog may be banned from the grounds used for training – whether at the main training area or at visiting locations. The club member will not be reimbursed any dues paid.
The ban and any restrictions imposed may be lifted at the discretion of the majority of club members, if the dog is deemed no longer a threat.
